SOURCE: The content on this site was originally published in 1899 as a high school textbook, "Story of the Great Republic," published in 1899 by American Book Company as part of their Eclectic School Readings, author, H. A. Gueber.

PURPOSE: To spark interest in America's fascinating development by allowing students to quickly access the areas of both self-interest and topics assigned by their instructor.

GOAL: To provide instructors and students with an understanding of how American History was taught in public schools over 100 years ago. A lot of what you'll read has been revised in the century that followed the original publication of "Story of the Great Republic." Some will argue that over time scholars have gained insight to historical events. Others will insist that revisionist are rewriting history for their own purposes. Whichever camp you may fall into this source material is still of value if only to see how the 20th Century has evolved our viewpoint of American History.
