Geoff,

The question comes down to if the revisionist are the ones who write the history now or when this book was published in 1899.

I'll have to leave it up to reader to determine who the revisionist are/were and their motives. It is the victorious, in any battle, that writes the history of events.

Please. Lincoln most definitely did not "declare war" in his first inaugural speech. He quite clearly stated "in your hands... not mine, is the...decision of Civil War." As President, Lincoln took an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of The United States."

The first shots of the Civil War were fired by the South, not the other way around. The Confederate sailors and soldiers fired on U.S. Government property and seized other property as well. They were the aggressors in the War.

Historical revisionists can twist facts any way they want, but that doesn't change those facts.

Cajie,

I agree. Every student of history should read the books you mention to get a view of history beyond the 'politically correct' version that they are so often given.

I'd like to suggest that students of any subject be aware that misinformation creeps into most text books. For example, in a college psychology course I looked up a study cited in a text book and found out what was reported in the text book was a gross misinterpretation of the facts.

This article is not my interpretation of the events. The material presented is from a U.S. History book that was published in 1899 and used in high schools at that time.

In the near future I will make the entire book available for download.

Your interpretation version of the inaugural speech and Fort Sumter is the pc version. I suggest you further your education with some of the new books c 2000.

The Constitution in Exile by Judge Andrew P. Napolitano; Lincoln Unmasked by Thomas j. Dilorenzo, Phd., The Politically incorrect Guide to The South by Clint Johnson, Don't Tread on Me by H. W. Crocker III, The South Under Siege 1830-2000 by Frank Conner,"When In the Course of Human Events by Charles Adams.

The 4 Mar 1861 inaugural speech was a threat of war on the South - see the time table, google it, the South had already left.

The Confederate States of America sent delegates to Washington offering to pay for any government property in their respective states. They were rebuffed and refused an audience.

Lincoln declared War before the firing on Fort Sumter.

"The power confided to me will be used to hold, occupy and possess the property and places belonging to the Government and to COLLECT DUTIES AND IMPOSTS....."

Fort Sumter sits in the middle of Charleston Bay, no one can enter Charleston without passing by it. It was built by the people of the South for their protection.
